[beasiswa] RE: [butuh info] Switzerland Goverment Scholarship for EPFL

Dear Rahayu
Saya sih pernah apply beasiswa ini tapi ngak lulus.
Sebenarnya juga karena udah dapat beasiswa dari negara
tetangganya Swiss, jadi ngak sungguh2 nyari
beasiswanya di Swiss. Sekadar sharing aja kenapa saya
gagal, supaya ngak terjadi pada anda;
1. Bahasa France, Jerman dan Italia
bahasa nasional swiss ada 3, Perancis, Jerman ama
Itali. Kedubes Swiss sangat strik dalam menseleksi
kandidat beasiswa, jadi pertama kali musti bisa salah
satu bahasa itu. Jadi kalau belum bisa salah satu
bahasa itu, kemungkinan besar kandidat anda ditolak.
Bila anda masuk ke univ swiss berbahasa jerman,
usahakan udah bisa berbahasa jerman, jangan France.
Waktu itu saya udah dapat respon positif dari
professor di ETHZ di kota Zurich, daerah swiss dengan
bahasa Jerman, tapi saya sendiri pake bahasa France.
Kemungkinan ini yang menyebabkan saya gagal.
EPFL, kalo ngak salah di kota Lausenne, ya? sepertinya
itu daerah swiss berbahasa France. Usahakan bisa
berbahasa France.
Coba tanyakan sekali lagi ke prof anda di EPFL, jika
anda dapat beasiswa dari goverment Swiss, dia mau
menerima anda di departementnya atau membimbing anda
selama studi anda. Kalo ia jawab ya, saya rasa itu
udah bisa dijadikan senjata untuk seleksi anda. Jadi
admission dari fakultas ngak diperlukan dulu. Salah
satu tujuan anda punya kontak resmi (professor atau
accption letter universitas), menunjukkan kesungguhan
bahwa anda datang untuk studi bukan untuk main2.
Soalnya soalnya beasiswanya cukup besar bila
dirupiahkan dibandingkan pada tingkatan studi yang di
negara eropa lain walau biaya hidupnya juga lebih
mahal.
2. Coba aja dulu
kalo pas penutupan beasiswa anda belum dapat acception
dari universitas, saya pikir anda bisa nyantumkan
email2 anda dg professor ke dokumen seleksi. Dari situ
minimal sudah menunjukkan anda udah berniat benar2
untuk sekolah ke sana. Tinggal tambahin doa.

Yang saya perkirakan adalah pada saat titik puncak kulminasi atau di
titik momentum subsidi minyak tanah dicabut, atau permerintah
melaksanakan penghapusan subsidi terhadap minyak tanah (kapan yah,
sebentar lagi atau sesudah pemilu 2009?), padahal komporgasm belum
dibagikan ke rakyat secara merata, (maksudnya saya belum kebagian
komporgasm) di saat itulah akan muncul gejolak atau keresahan sosial
yang cukup dahsyat.

DIALEKTIKA INTUISI-NALURI

Apa kabar Bung Leo? Semoga baik-baik saja. Saya pingin
melanjutkan diskusi beberapa waktu lalu tentang
intuisi dan naluri.

(1a) Kalau menurut saya: pemahaman BAHWA intuisi itu
bersifat ilahiyat (spiritual) berkedudukan di atas dan
naluri itu bersifat hewani dengan kedudukan lebih
rendah sebenarnya itu juga merupakan belief system.
Bisa jadi kedudukan intuisi dan naluri sama2 di atas
atau sama2 di bawah. Mereka memiliki posisi yang
sejajar dengan sifat yang berlawanan. Keduanya
berinteraksi sedemikian rupa mengikuti hukum
dialektika bergerak terus menuju pada kesempurnaan.
ini ibarat program virus dengan anti-virus. Kedua
program tersebut berinteraksi secara dialektik yang
akhirnya menyebabkan kualitas kedua program itu
semakin tinggi. Demikian juga dengan intuisi dan
naluri, mereka berinteraksi terus menuju pada kualitas
yang lebih tinggi sampai pada tingkatan tertentu
dimana dua2nya gak ada, karena keduanya lebur menjadi
AKU.

(1b) Pada tingkat tersebut (AKU) sesungguhnya sudah
tidak ada lagi baik-buruk, benar-salah, pahala-dosa,
sorga-neraka, hamba-Gusti, dan lain-lainnya. bukankah
begitu?

(2 lanjutan 1a) Jika memang demikian, maka adalah
suatu hal yang wajar jika pada saat tertentu intuisi
kita sangat dominan dan pada saat yang lain naluri
kita yang dominan. Jadi kalau ada orang yang korup,
selingkuh, dan lain-lainnya, maka sebetulnya yang
bersangkutan memasuki proses di mana naluri sedang
dominan (meningkatkan kualitas). Tapi sebaliknya jika
seseorang sayang sama sesama, rindu sama Tuhan, dan
lain-lainnya, berarti yang bersangkutan lagi dalam
proses dimana intuisi berada pada posisi dominan
(meningkatkan kualitas). Dari cara pandang ini
berarti dua macam perbuatan di atas (korup dan
selingkuh di satu sisi dan sayang sama sesama dan
rindu sama Tuhan di sisi yang lain) sama-sama tidak
dapat dikatakan salah atau benar, tidak ada dosa dan
pahala, dua2nya adalah bagian dari sebuah proses.

(3) menurut Bung Leo beberapa waktu lalu, Mata Ketiga
saya udah buka n sudah menggunakannya, but sometimes
when I need it, it doesn't work, what do you think?
Kalau seandainya saya menemui Bung Leo langsung,
kira-kira Mata Ketiga saya bisa aktif setiap saat
nggak? kalau seandainya pada waktu ketemu itu
frekwensinya disamakan dengan Bung Leo apa kira2 saya
nanti malah jadi Bung Leo, bukan jadi diri sendiri?
atau bahkan menjadi lebih aktif dan berdaya?

JAWABAN SAYA: MEMANG DEMIKIANLAH ADANYA, YET WE HAVE
TO MOVE BEYOND IT... TO REACH THE "NON-DIALECTICS"

Mas I yang baik; Thanks for sharing. Kemarin udah
ketemu aku kan di PIM. I was glad to meet you and
another friend from from Malang. And another friend
from Ciputat who contacted me in the morning for the
first time. And another friend from Cilegon who met
with me at the same place after that.

Dialektika Intuisi vs Naluri memang bekerja seperti
itu. Kita manusia hidup, dan memang dibekali "dari
sononya" dengan kemampuan2 INTUITIF dan INSTINKTIF.
Secara alamiah, kita memang seperti itu. Tanpa
dibuat-buat, kita memang sudah intuitif dan sudah
instinctf. Cuma, ada kemampuan yang "halus", dan ada
kemampuan yang "kasar". Ini juga merupakan istilah2
saja. But you know what I mean, of course.

Kemampuan yang "halus" adalah yang INTUITIF, dan
kemampuan yang "kasar" adalah yang INSTINKTIF. Yang
memerlukan kemampuan BATIN adalah yang intuitif. Yang
memerlukan kemampuan BADANI adalah yang instinktif.
Yang rohaniah adalah yang menggunakan INTUISI. Yang
badaniah adalah yang menggunakan NALURI. Very simple
memang,... dan memang begitulah adanya. Apakah yang
satu lebih tinggi, dan apakah yang satu lebih rendah?
You wrote like that. And I answer here,... well, kan
kita memiliki kepala fisik dan kaki fisik juga. Kepala
letaknya di atas secara empat dimensional, dan kaki
letaknya di bawah. Itu FAKTA,... MEMANG DEMIKIANLAH
ADANYA. Tapi, apakah kepala memiliki "derajat" lebih
tinggi daripada kaki I don't think so. Sama saja kan?
Cuma memang yang satu letaknya di atas, dan satunya
lagi letaknya di bawah. Derajatnya sama, sama2
perangkat manusia hidup untuk bisa berfungsi apa
adanya. Tetapi,... kita berjalan kaki dengan KAKI kan?
Dan kalau kaki lalu bilang bahwa karena derajatnya
sama dengan KEPALA,... lalu dia MENGANCAM dan
BERTINDAK secara UNILATERAL... bahwa : "Mulai saat ini
saya sebagai kaki ingin berada di atas, dan kepala
harus ada di bawah".

Begitu katanya, dan dijalankanlah. Akhirnya apa:
Hmmmm... Hmmmmm... Hmmmm... ITU SUDAH TERBUKTI KAN,
ada KAKI yang ingin menjadi KEPALA.... dan kepalanya
diinjak-injaklah. Dan kita lihat orangnya jadi seperti
apa? Dan kita gak bisa bilang apa2.... kita cuma bisa
bilang kasihan oh kasihan. Manusia kok sampai menjadi
seperti hewan? Hewan saja masih jalan dengan kakinya
yang di bawah. Nah, ini ada manusia kok berjalan
dengan kepalanya yang di bawah, kakinya di atas? Luar
biasa sekali. Bodohnya itu lho, luar biasa sekali. Dan
kita gak bisa bilang apa2, kita cuma bisa geleng2
kepala saja melihatnya. Itu HAK orang itu untuk
menggunakan kepalanya sebagai kaki, dan kakinya
sebagai kepala. Tuhan aja gak bisa protes, wong kita
ini semua dikasih FREE WILL (Kehendak Bebas) oleh
Tuhan. Secara ALAMIAH natural sudah diatur bahwa
memang ada yang di ATAS dan ada yang di BAWAH. Tetapi,
kalau ada orang yang ingin MEMUTAR-BALIKKAN itu semua,
itu bisa saja. Go on, kata Gusti Allah,... Go on my
dear,... I love you all the same, kata Gusti Allah.

Dan kita lihat itu dimana-mana di muka bumi ini segala
orang yang NALURInya itu menjadi KEPALA, dan
INTUISInya itu menjadi telapak kaki. Menjadi telapak
kaki kan artinya diinjak doang, dan orang itu komplein
kok gak bisa konek dengan yang ILLAHI. Dan aku bilang
don't komplein, kok mao konek, wong yang bisa dipake
buat konek kan diinjek-injek,... dan yang harusnya
diinjek-injek malah dipuja-puji dan dipake sebagai
perangkat untuk konek. Gak bisa,.. gak jalan. Dan yang
seperti itu adalah manusia2 yang NALURIAH. Mereka
bilang bahwa mereka itu normal aja, ya memang normal
aja, memang bisa aja seperti itu.... Jalan dengan
kepala di bawah dan kaki di atas memang bisa. Dan gak
ada yang larang,... wong kepala, kepala dia, kaki juga
kaki dia. Boleh aja kan. Dan akan terlihat seperti
BADUT. Lucu sekali... No problem kan? Dan itu kita
lihat ada dimana-mana. Secara SPIRITUAL, kita melihat
banyak orang terbalik seperti itu, dan secara
SPIRITUAL kita tertawa saja. Bukan menghakimi, tetapi
TERTAWA. Tertawa terbahak-bahak. Lucu, lucu... ha ha
ha. So what? Tuhan aja tertawa kok. Bukan menghukum,
tapi tertawa. Ntar juga sadar ndiri, kata Tuhan.

Nah, lalu yang KESADARAN (AWARENESS) itu apa? Menurut
aku, KESADARAN kita itu berlapis-lapis. Memang ada
kesadaran RENDAH, dan ada kesadaran TINGGI. Karena
kita masih memakai BAHASA MANUSIA, gak bisa dihindari
ada istilah tinggi rendah, atas bawah... itu perlu
karena kalau gak pakai DIKOTOMI, maka kita gak ngerti.
In the end memang gak ada dikotomi lagi, gak ada itu
atas atau bawah, depan atau belakang, kiri atau kanan,
dsb... In the end semuanya itu GAK ADA. But, ketika
kita sampai ke tahap itu. Atau, ketika kita visit that
situation. Keadaan HENING itu hanya bisa dirasakan,
dan gak bisa di deskripsikan. Itu adalah AWARENESS
BEYOND AWARENESS. Jadi, bahkan ROSO ELING itu bukanlah
tujuan. Bukan tujuan dari segala olah rohaniah dan
siksa badaniah itu,... bukan tujuan terakhir. Tujuan
terakhir sebenarnya, according to my humble opinion is
to MOVE BEYOND AWARENESS. To reach CONSCIOUSNESS
BEYOND CONSCIOUSNESS itu. Kesadaran yang berada BEYOND
kesadaran itu. Dan itu tidak bisa digambarkan. Kita
cuma bisa menunjukkan jalannya secara satu persatu.
Contoh: please BE YOURSELF. Please be JUJUR. Please be
INTUITIVE. Please ini atau please itu... dan semua
plas plis plas plis itu memang merupakan METODE
belaka. Metode untuk menuju pada KESADARAN BEYOND
KESADARAN. Itu GOD,... kalau menuruti tradisi agamis.
Itu our SOURCE OF ALL SOURCES,... ALL THAT IS. Dan,
memang, secara INTUITIVE kita tahu bahwa ketika sampai
disana telah tidak ada lagi atas atau bawah, depan
atau belakang, kiri atau kanan. Telah tidak ada lagi
kontradiksi itu. Tetapi cara mencapainya, menurut aku,
mau gak mau harus melalui DIMENSI INTUISI atau DIMENSI
MATA KETIGA atau DIMENSI BATIN itu. I know that for
sure. Kalau menggunakan NALURI thok untuk mencapai
itu,... that's IMPOSSIBLE mas. You know yourself that
it is impossible. Naluri kan cuma sebagai FORETASTE
aja,... cuma sample aja. Itu BUKAN the REAL THING. Itu
will not lead us to THE SOURCE OF ALL SOURCES.

So, the answer is: SURE, DIALECTICS IS A FACT OF
LIFE,... Yet, we have to move and REACH THE STATE
where all dialectis stops and true LIVE BEGINS. In
other terms: NIBBANA, NOTHINGNESS, SHIVA NATARAJA ...
AUUMMMMM..... auuuummmmm....... auuuummmmmmm....

KHODAM, OH KHODAM...

A = Siang pak, masih sibukkah?

L = Lumayan mas, mao ilmu apa?

A = Ilmu apa aja deh.

L = Hm,... sampeyan kerja di bidang apa?

A = Aku chemist di power plant, kalo panjenengan?

L = Aku kan doekoen online. hmm..

A = Mau cerita nih pak, boleh gak?

L = Intuisinya itu jalan lho, tapi terlalu banyak
berdiam diri. Boleh cerita, please do!

A = Ya memang dari dulu banyak diam pak. Aku kemaren
baru att reiki tibetan, tapi badan aku rasanya panas,
persis waktu aku att reiki usui master dulu.

L = Then?

A = Sekarang uda gak pa2 sih, baru 3 hari kemaren aku
mulai gak panas, aku coba aja pasrah.

L = Hm... chemistry yah. Body chemistry. Kalo ketemu
orang, berasa di badan. You read people from your
body. Coba, bisa baca aku using your body dari sana?

A = Kan gak boleh di keluarin kalo uda baca orang,
buat kita sendiri aja.

L = Hm hm hm... Ilmu dari aku kan ILMU SPONTAN GAK
KENAL TAKUT. Namanya Ilmu Spontan Ngomong Ceplas
Ceplos. Eeeng ingg eeenggg. Dicoba dunk! Dicoba dunk!

A = Bisa kasi saran ke aku bgmn aku bisa lihat wujud
khodam dan komunikasi lewat penglihatan dengan jelas,
bukan lewat MK3. Bisa kasi teknik komunikasi lewat
mimpi karena aku komunikasi lewat MK3 paling sering ?

L = Khodam wujudnya gak bisa dipegang, cuma bisa
kelihatan kalao kita di level gelombang otak rendah
sekali (termasuk tidur lelap). Tetapi, energi khodam
itu paling gampang di deteksi. Kan berasa di telapak
tangan itu... saaarr seerrr saarr serrr..... itu
khodam. Beda2 rasanya.

Keris2 kuno itu semuanya ada khodamnya, dan rasanya
beda2. Rasanya di telapak tangan sampai ke dada dan
wajah. Itu langsung terasa di fisik. Kalo komunikasi
lewat mata fisik, aku gak bisa. Tapi, kalo melalui
mimpi, aku bisa. Muncul di mimpi, lalu komunikasi,
biasanya berbentuk simbol2 juga.

A = Kalo menurut scan panjenengan ada energy khodam
gak di diriku ?

L = Udah jelas ada khodam. Yang reiki itu khodamnya
seabrek-abrek, tiap lewat satu guru dikasih tambahan
khodam. Ya udah, teknik komunikasi udah bisa sendiri.
Di mimpi komunikasinya sama aja, ngomong2 di mimpi is
komunikasi. Cuma terkadang bentuknya simbol2 belaka,
gak harus berbentuk seperti orang yang kita kenal
secara fisik. Tapi, akhirnya arti dari mimpi akan
muncul sendiri dari Mata Ketiga. Muncul sendiri tanpa
dipikirin.

A = Tapi suatu khodam kan punya wujud yang paling
sering dia tampakkan ?

L = Wujud dalam tanda kutip karena "wujud" itu bisa
tampil berbeda dalam pandangan orang yang berbeda.
Wujud yang "terlihat" itu kan simbol saja, dan gak
harus terlihat sama setiap waktu.

A = Makanya setiap orang yang scan aku pasti beda
omongnya.

L = Lha iya which is ok2 aja. Hmm.... hmmm.... hmmm...

L = I have to sign out soon, udah invi duluan. Supaya
chemistry-nya kerja duluan. Diaduk-aduk dulu, chemical

sering konflik ya?

L = Jadi diri sendiri menggunakan MATA BATIN, dan ada
yang namanya HATI NURANI disana. Kalo sakarepe dhewe
yang diinget cuma kepentingan ego sendiri. Beda dunk.

A = Ya itu om, kadang kalo kt dianggap alien ama masy
gmana om? Jadi diri sendiri malah jadi laen sendiri

L = Gak usah dipikirin. Aku juga ALIEN. So what? Kita
cenacib yah, cenacib jadi alien... Gak apa2 lageeh,
emang napa? Cuek azzah, enjoy azzah.... --I have to

All 3 Ph.D. projects will be carried out in the framework of the Research
Programme on The International Constitutional Order.

The 3 positions are funded by the Netherlands Organization for Scientific
Research (NWO) and will be written in the context of the NWO VICI-project
titled: The emerging international constitutional order: the implications of
hierarchy in international law for the coherence and legitimacy of
international decision-making.

The 3 respective Ph.D. projects will be directed at:

1.The emerging international value system and the re-establishing of legal
control over the exercise of (international) public power;
2.The impact of the emerging international value system on private
international law;
3.The implications of the emergence of "international partnerships"
consisting of international organisations and private entities within the
international constitutional order.

Tasks
• To engage in supervised scientific research that will ultimately result in
a doctoral thesis;
• The candidate may also lecture on subjects in the Faculty's curriculum.

Required education/skills:University Graduate
• Qualified jurist with excellent knowledge of public international law. For
project 1 the candidate also requires an excellent knowledge of
constitutional law; project 2 an excellent knowledge of private
international law; and project 3 an excellent knowledge of the law of
international organisations.
• Excellent writing skills; fluency in English; good working knowledge of
German and/or French preferred;
• Foreign candidates will be expected to acquire working knowledge of the
Dutch language within a period of two years.

The Amsterdam Center for International Law (ACIL) is the research institute
for international and European law. Its mission is to facilitate and support
legal research into the internationalisation of the law and the development
of the rule of law in international society. The ACIL brings together over
60 researchers who have specialised in general international law and
European Union law, international criminal law, international economic law,
international tax law and international aspects of constitutional and
administrative law. The research of the ACIL is organised on the basis of 5
three-yearly Research Programmes, one of which focuses on the International
Constitutional Order.

Additional conditions of employment:
The appointment will be full time (38 hours a week) although a part-time
appointment (32 hours per week) can be facilitated with the consent of the
employer, for a period of four years and should lead to a dissertation. The
projects will commence on 1 February 2008. The gross monthly salary will be
in accordance with University regulations for academic personnel, and will
range from € 1,956 in the first year up to a maximum of € 2,502 in the last
year.

A Ph.D. project on antihydrogen is on offer in the fundamental atomic
physics group at the Physics Department of Swansea University. The group
consists currently of 5 permanent staff, 3 post doc. and about 8 Ph.D.
students. The group plays a leading role in the ALPHA antihydrogen
experiment at the international lab CERN in Geneva, Switzerland (
http://alpha.web.cern.ch/alpha/). The position on offer here will be mostly
based at CERN.

Antihydrogen is a bound state of an antiproton and a positron. By comparison
with hydrogen, antihydrogen promises the ultimate test of the CPT theorem of
quantum mechanics. The aim of this experiment is to trap cold antihydrogen
in preparation for such precision spectroscopy.

The prospective student will spend most of his/her time at CERN. This is a
challenging and enriching environment. The atmosphere is very international
and busy, and the antihydrogen experiment involves many subfields of physics
and offers many opportunities for the engaged student. Apart from
antihydrogen trapping itself, in which all students will be involved, we
focus on plasma physics work. We are currently in the process of trying to
use plasma control to improve the control of the antihydrogen formed, an
area where there is plenty of room for innovation and independent
contributions.

The student will work on the plasma physics aspects of the antihydrogen
formation. Using rotating electric fields it is possible to control the size
and density of the positron and electron plasmas used in the experiment as
well, as possibly, the antiprotons. The aim of this project will be to study
how the parameters of the plasmas influence the formation of antihydrogen,
and ultimately how this influences the trapping efficiency.

Starting date is as soon as can be arranged.

The PhD studentship will pay home/EU fees + an enhanced bursary of £20,000
per annum.

Call for PhD projects in the field of Migration, Diversity and Development *

*The Institute for European Studies (IES) invites applications for the
position of a PhD researcher for a maximum duration of four years (beginning
in November 2007). The IES is a Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence of the
Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB). Its research focuses on the role of the EU
as a global actor and on the interaction between the internal and external
dimensions of EU policies and between EU policies and other international
institutions and organisations. More information on the institute and its
research strategy can be found here <http://www.ies.be/about/>.*

*The IES seeks proposals for PhD projects in a legal discipline or political
science (or a related social science) that help us advance our knowledge
about the driving forces and most promising policy responses to migration
and diversity both in Europe and in the context of development. Comparative
studies between Europe and the traditionally immigrant societies of the New
World might be helpful in determining promising policy paths. Proposals
addressing legal issues are particularly encouraged.*

*Rationale*: As the Global Commission on International Migration noted in
its 2005 report, "human mobility is not only becoming more complex in scope
and scale, but is also becoming more complex in its nature". Many of these
complexities and the crosscutting factors involved are not yet well
understood. Migration brings with it a wealth of issues concerned with human
interaction especially in our large cities. These include differences of
culture, legal tradition, religion and customs and the acceptance of such
diversity amongst the local population. They also encompass practical
matters such as how to deal with language in schools and how to integrate
migrant children into the educational system, health issues, sensitivity in
policing migrant neighbourhoods and other social and legal questions.


Proposals should have a clear conceptual foundation and could focus on one
or several of the following issues that are of particular relevance in a
European context:

- Integration of migrants into host societies. Although there is a
considerable literature on strategies for integration of migrants, further
study needs to be done on the effectiveness of government intervention as
opposed to *laissez-faire*, policies for dealing with concentrations
of migrants in European cities, the role of the private sector in job
creation and social issues relating to isolation from family and culture.
- Policy formation regarding economic migration for employment and
self-employment. Key aspects of this issue encompass the effects of
declining demography and the increasing dependency ratio in Europe, the
effects of economic migrants on employment levels, wage levels and other
market factors such as the need for workers to fill jobs in the current
favourable European economic climate and the desirability of immigration for
wealth formation.
- The effectiveness of different types of visa regimes such as
temporary work permits, high skilled and points based schemes, job matching,
"circular" migration schemes in particular the effect of such schemes on the
sending countries' development such as "brain gain" and remittances.
- Control of illegal migration. There is a lack of exploration of the
success or failure of strategies currently being employed (notably
regularisation or amnesties for illegal migrants, carriers' liability or
criminal penalties for employing illegal workers which are largely ignored)
as well as the factors determining this success or failure.
- Responses to mass migration. There has been little examination of
the effects of armed conflict on migration and of the best methods of
dealing with mass influx of migrants created by human action or natural
disasters. A current example is the effect of conflict (such as in Iraq or
Afghanistan) which is politically and militarily supported by potential
receiving European states on the migration issues of nationals of the
countries in conflict.
- Relationship between human rights and migration law. There is a need
to further explore the contradictions between human rights law and the
perceived right of nation states and the EU to control access to their
territory. This can, amongst other questions, include issues relating to the
Geneva Convention 1951 on the right to asylum, the extension of states'
control of immigration beyond their borders (for example by stationing
liaison officers at foreign airports or processing asylum applications
outside their territory) or data protection matters in relation to
electronic control systems. There are potential conflicts between rights
under the Geneva Convention and rights under the European Convention on
Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms which might be explored in the light
of decisions in the European Court of Human Rights and the European Court of
Justice.
- The effects of European trade and aid policies on migration. One
area of inquiry might be how the EU can modify its policies in the various
trade negotiation fora a such as the WTO or the Cotonou Agreement in order
to mitigate possible effects of these policies on migratory patterns. The
same reasoning applies to aid policy in particular how migration issues can
be best incorporated into development projects in the light of the various
EU communications on this issue.

An important criterion for the selection of the successful candidate will be
that a qualified supervision and promotion of the PhD can be ensured at the
Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB). Applicants are therefore encouraged to
identify potential promoters at the VUB and to indicate these in their
application, if possible.

*Remuneration:* PhD bursary or equivalent (appr. 1500 Euros net per month)
