School of Life & Health Sciences
*Five International Overseas Bursaries to support PhD Studentships in From
January 2008*
The School is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities to pursue cutting
edge research in Life & Health Sciences. The School of Life and Health
Sciences was awarded a grade 5 in Subjects Allied to Medicine in the 2001
RAE. The School currently has a research income of about £8m, with
approximately 80 research students, (part time and full-time), who are
registered in the School each year.
*Five bursaries are available to support studentships* in Neurosciences,
Biomedical Sciences and Health Sciences within the School of Life & Health
Sciences. Applicants are invited from International, Non-EU students for
Research Scholarships to undertake full-time research leading to a PhD in
the School of Life and Health Sciences. Each Scholarship will provide a
bursary of £5,500 through each successful year of study over three years to
the successful applicants, which is deducted from the tuition fees of
£11,125 per year, (October 2007 - September 2008 Entry) and will be awarded
on the basis of merit. Please note that all applicants will be expected to
guarantee financial support to pay the remaining tuition fees of £5,625 per
year.
Research training, which includes subject specific skills to the research
project under study and a general taught research programme, is undertaken
by all postgraduate students in Life & Health Sciences during their first
year.

*Application Requirements*
- Applicants should have a good honours degree (equivalent to either
first class or upper second class) or hold an MSc in a relevant discipline.
- The English Language Requirements are a minimum score of 600 (250
minimum in computer test) in TOEFL OR IELTS with minimum marks of
6.0in each section and an overall band of
6.5.
- Studentships are for 3 years, subject to a satisfactory progress
review at the end of the first year and are available *from January
2008*.

(or in an attached letter or CV) of their specific research interests and
the name of the research project for which the application is being made.

listed for interview.
